The Big C Society®
The Letterwinners Society of Cal Athletics, founded in 1908. On February 12th, 1908, the athletes from intercollegiate varsity sports at the University of California at Berkeley founded The Big C Society® in order to establish the standards for earning a varsity athletic letter. Now organized as a 501(c)3 charity, The Big C Society® is the varsity alumni network and letter winners society of Cal Athletics, that today operates as a specialized media organization. It produces varsity alumni spotlights (podcasts and ‘video chats’) and other media that profiles former Cal student-athletes in their post-sports careers. It also provides supplemental funding to Cal's non-revenue sports, its seriously injured athletes and to events and programs that connect and support Cal's athletes for life.

It also invests in sports equipment for our teams and medical funding for Cal studentathletes with lifethreatening injuries or illnesses and continues to steward the standards for earning varsity letter awards at Cal. Spotlighting It turns out the sensibilities that make Cals studentathletes top performers in their sports also make them elite producers over a lifetime.
