Mt Zion Church and Female Union Band Society Cemeteries are two of the oldest Black cemeteries in Georgetown and greater Washington, DC. Listed on the National Registry of Historic Places and designated as a UNESCO Slave Route Project site of memory. The Mt. Zion β Female Union Band Historic Memorial Park nonprofit was established to jointly manage the preservation and commemoration of the Mt. Zion and Female Union Band Society Cemeteries. Active from 1808 to 1950 and historically African American, 3-acres that sit adjacent in Georgetown, Washington, DC. MISSION To reimagine Mt. Zion β FUBS cemeteries and create a historic Memorial Park in order to: - Rediscover nearly two centuries of lost African American history and; - Develop a sacred space for quiet reflection and respectful commemoration.

These cemeteries serve to preserve and create awareness of the heritage contributions and sacrifices these founders of Georgetown made during their lifetimes and provide insight to their families and the community in which they lived during a time of deep segregation.
