This year, National Fishing and Boating Week is June 1 - 8. Shown is an undated photo donated to our collection by David Darwent Fraleigh, former owner of Rose Hill Farm. The photo was taken somewhere in or near Red Hook, NY, and the date is probably somewhere in the early 1900s based on the clothing and condition of the image. Sometimes archiving images means holding onto and preserving photos even when the subject, date, and location can only be guessed at. Updated information about the image will often reveal itself over time. Meanwhile, it's interesting to search for clues in images of the past, and wonder about the actual story behind them. You can now browse highlights from the collection at www.historicredhook.org/collections. The archives are currently open on Tuesdays 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., Fridays 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., and the first Saturday of every month 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Drop in or make an appointment by emailing us at info@historicredhook.org. 🎨✨ We’re thrilled to have collaborated with the “It Takes a Village” exhibition at VERSE Work/Shop, featuring incredible artwork by Linden Avenue Middle School sixth graders! Historic Red Hook contributed historic images to sit side by side with the students’ creative interpretations of beloved Red Hook buildings — bridging past and present through art. We also provided hand-crafted models of historic buildings, originally made for the town’s 2012 bicentennial parade, to bring extra dimension to the display. Stop by and celebrate the talents of our community’s youngest artists while reflecting on the buildings that make up our village! 🗓️ On view for 4 days only: 📍 35 West Market Street, Red Hook, NY Thursday 12–5 PM | Friday 1–8 PM | Saturday + Sunday 12–5 PM (fb)
