Project Outrun

Overview

Project Outrun is a U.S. 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting families in their battle against pediatric cancer. The mission of the organization focuses on empowering and strengthening children and their families through provision of custom shoes, signature merchandise, and community engagement.

History

The foundation of Project Outrun originated from the story of Kylie Rose Jacobs, a young girl who has survived cancer on multiple occasions. This initial act of support evolved into a widespread movement, inspiring the creation of a community that empowers children to "outrun" cancer, symbolizing resilience and hope through the gift of custom shoes.

Programs and Activities

• Custom Shoes and Swag: Project Outrun provides custom shoes and signature merchandise to bring joy and motivation to children undergoing cancer treatment. These items serve as symbols of strength and resilience, often becoming integral parts of their journey.
• In-Person and Virtual Design Events: The organization conducts design nights where children can create their own shoes, both in-person and virtually. This allows for personalization and participation across the country.
• Finish Line Moments: The organization encourages children to set and achieve goals, celebrating these achievements by creating finish line scenarios at home. This ritual reinforces the sense of accomplishment and optimism for the families.

Outreach and Chapters

Project Outrun is headquartered in Northeast Ohio and actively operates within the three major pediatric hospitals in the region: Akron Children's, UH Rainbow Babies & Children, and Cleveland Clinic Pediatrics. Additionally, it has a dedicated chapter in Iowa, demonstrating its expanding reach across the United States.
