Blacks In Government (BIG)
Blacks In Government (BIG) is a U.S. nonprofit organization established in 1975 by African American employees at the Department of Health, Education and Welfare (now known as the Department of Health and Human Services) in Rockville, Maryland. It was formally incorporated as a nonprofit under the District of Columbia jurisdiction in 1976. BIG's mission is to promote equity, excellence, and opportunity for African Americans in government at the local, state, and federal levels.
History and Founding
BIG was founded with the primary goal of addressing racial discrimination and employment challenges faced by African Americans in government positions. Initially intended to focus on federal issues, it soon expanded to support state, county, and municipal Black employees confronting similar challenges. Over the years, BIG has become a national organization advocating for the collective interests of African American civil servants.

Activities and Community Outreach
BIG engages in community outreach activities, including scholarship awards and educational initiatives, to improve the quality of life for African Americans. Its events often highlight achievements and experiences of members, promoting unity and shared progress within the Black community.
