Operation Warrior Shield

Operation Warrior Shield is a U.S. nonprofit organization dedicated to providing comprehensive support to service members, veterans, first responders, and their families. The organization focuses on addressing the "hidden wounds" associated with these professions, particularly by offering the non-religious modality of Transcendental Meditation (TM) to reduce symptoms of post-traumatic stress injury (PTSI).

Founding and Mission

Operation Warrior Shield was established by Ed Schloeman and the late Jerry Yellin in 2016. The organization's mission is to help warriors and first responders overcome the stresses of their profession through various programs. These include free training in Transcendental Meditation, assistance in finding well-paying jobs, helping reduce veteran homelessness, and facilitating access to companion dogs. The organization collaborates with numerous veteran service organizations, such as the Wounded Warrior Project and the USO.

Programs and Services

  • Transcendental Meditation Training: Offers TM training as a tool to alleviate PTSI symptoms, leveraging its proven medical record for stress reduction.
  • Employment Assistance: Helps veterans secure well-paying jobs to support their integration into civilian life.
  • Homelessness Prevention: Works with local city agencies to reduce homelessness among veterans.
  • Companion Dogs: Assists veterans in obtaining companion dogs, which can provide emotional support.

Structure and Recognition

Operation Warrior Shield is a 501(c)(3) organization. It has received a 4/4 Star rating from Charity Navigator, indicating strong financial health and accountability practices. The organization's leadership includes its Chairman and President, Ed Schloeman.

Impact and Challenges

Every day, the U.S. loses veterans to suicide, with an estimated 22 veterans dying by suicide daily. Operation Warrior Shield aims to contribute to combating this epidemic by offering its support programs. However, the organization's success depends on public support and donations to continue its services. Through membership levels such as Gold, Silver, and Bronze Star, donors can contribute financially and receive recognition for their support.
