THE OBJECTIVE OF THE AMERICAN LEGION POST IS TO PROMOTE THE PRINCIPLES OF THE PREAMBLE TO ITS CONSTITUTION, WHICH INCLUDES UPHOLDING AND DEFENDING THE US CONSTITUTION; MAINTAINING LAW AND ORDER; FOSTERING AMERICANISM; PRESERVING THE MEMORIES OF THE GREAT WARS; INCULCATING A SENSE OF INDIVIDUAL OBLIGATION TO COMMUNITY, STATE, AND NATION; COMBATING AUTOCRACY; PROMOTING PEACE AND GOOD WILL; SAFEGUARDING THE PRINCIPLES OF JUSTICE, FREEDOM, AND DEMOCRACY; AND CONSECRATING COMRADESHIP BY DEVOTION TO MUTUAL HELPFULNESS.
