Community Futures Collective

Community Futures Collective was formed to provide infrastructure development and support for advocacy and service organizations dealing with prison alternatives, social justice and Native American language, culture and rights. Currently we are providing services for: The Coalition to Free the Angola 3, Real Cost of Prisons, Seventh Native American Generations, Advocates for Indigenous California Language Survival, Injunuity and several smaller projects.  CFC's latest addition is The Solitary Watch.The Solitary Watch News site is part of an emerging project called Solitary Watch, which will serve as the first centralized source of information on solitary confinement in the United States. The use of solitary confinement has grown dramatically in the past two decades; on any given day, as many as 100,000 people are living in solitary confinement in America's supermax prisons, lockdown units, and death rows. Yet this widespread practice, considered by many to constitute torture, has received scant media attention, and has yet to find a place in the public discourse or on political platforms.The mission of Solitary Watch is to provide the public—as well as practicing attorneys, legal scholars, law enforcement and corrections officers, policymakers, educators, advocates, and prisoners--with the first comprehensive source of information on solitary confinement in the United States. Overseen by veteran journalist James Ridgeway, the Solitary Watch News site combines a news blog with original reporting on solitary confinement, as well as an archive of information, resources, and oral histories. The aim of this innovative web-based project is to bring the issue of solitary confinement out of the shadows and into the light of the public square.
