Tempus Renatus School of Classical Horsemanship

Overview

Tempus Renatus School of Classical Horsemanship is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the preservation and promotion of classical riding, endangered breeds, and regenerative agriculture. The organization was founded with the aim of making education in these areas accessible to all, particularly targeting veterans, at-risk youth, and other disadvantaged populations.

History

The inspiration for Tempus Renatus began with the founders' exposure to the Lipizzans and the Spanish Riding School, following the viewing of the Disney movie "Miracle of the White Stallions." Initially established as a small breeding and training farm in 2012, the organization evolved into a nonprofit in 2017 to further its mission of sharing classical dressage and promoting traditional breeds. After facing significant setbacks due to Hurricane Helene in 2024, which damaged their Black Mountain, North Carolina facilities, Tempus Renatus relocated to a new facility in Remsen, New York.

Mission and Activities

  • Classical Riding: Tempus Renatus specializes in teaching classical dressage, an ancient art form that emphasizes harmony between horses and riders. The organization provides a range of educational programs, including lessons, workshops, and internships.
  • Preservation of Living Agricultural History: The school works to preserve historical breeds such as the Lipizzan and Kerry Bog Pony, as well as other species like the San Clemente Island Goat. This aspect of their mission extends to regenerative agriculture, aiming to support biodiversity and reduce environmental impact.
  • Wellness Programs: Through their "Anima Renova" program, Tempus Renatus offers wellness initiatives that benefit both humans and horses. These programs leverage the therapeutic benefits of classical riding to enhance mental and physical well-being.

Name Inspiration

The name "Tempus Renatus" is Latin for "time reborn," reflecting the organization's focus on reviving traditional practices and supporting personal renewal for both humans and animals. The name also resonates with the challenges faced during their relocation and rebuilding efforts.

Services and Outreach

Tempus Renatus offers a variety of services including:

  • Riding and horsemanship lessons
  • Equine-assisted learning programs
  • Educational tours and performances
  • Training retreats and internships

Their outreach efforts are designed to serve those who may not otherwise have access to these educational and therapeutic resources. The organization's inclusive approach fosters a community united by a passion for classical horsemanship and sustainability.

Tempus Renatus School of Classical Horsemanship As many now know the AshevilleBlack Mountain area of North Carolina has been absolutely devastated by hurricane Helene. Unfortunately our beautiful farm has taken huge losses to our animals and infrastructure. We have had to relocate to Remsen NY in order to move forward. We hope that one day our dreams for the property in Black Mountain may be realized but that future is uncertain.
