On October 16, 1869, workers digging a well on the farm of William Newell in Cardiff, New York, uncovered what appeared to be a 10-foot-tall, 3,000-pound “petrified giant. ” Newell quickly covered it with a tent and began charging visitors to see it. Crowds flocked to the farm, paying up to 50 cents each, and the discovery drew national attention.

As a teacher, I use Eduo in class to show students how civic engagement works. It’s inspiring and educational. Highly recommend for schools and community groups.
