Project N95
Overview
Project N95 is a U.S. nonprofit organization founded in the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. The organization's mission was to provide equitable access to authentic, life-saving personal protective equipment (PPE), including N95 masks and COVID-19 tests.
History
Project N95 was established in response to the critical need for reliable PPE during the pandemic. Its founder, Anne Miller, was motivated by personal experience, as her mother-in-law was one of the first Vermont residents to die from COVID-19. The organization's role was pivotal in bridging gaps in PPE supply chains, ensuring access to genuine products amidst counterfeit concerns in the market[2].
Impact
Throughout its operational period until its closure at the end of 2023, Project N95 distributed more than 37 million pieces of PPE, including masks and COVID tests, while donating over 5 million masks to those in need[3][5]. The organization's efforts helped over 1.1 million individuals, with a focus on vulnerable communities such as seniors, homeless youth, and low-income families[3]. Notable distributions included deliveries to healthcare workers, seniors in Houston, Texas, and homeless shelters across the U.S.[3].
Partnerships and Approach
Project N95 collaborated with various partners, including governments, healthcare associations, businesses, philanthropic organizations, and local communities. These partnerships allowed the organization to identify needs, expedite procurement, and ensure the equitable distribution of PPE to vulnerable populations[4]. The organization functioned as a PPE clearinghouse, connecting buyers directly with manufacturers to ensure authenticity and quality[2].
Mission and Closure
Project N95 aimed to address health inequities exacerbated by the pandemic by providing free masks to communities unable to afford them. However, due to insufficient revenue from donations and sales, the organization ceased its operations in December 2023[2]. Despite its closure, Project N95 remains recognized for its critical role in enhancing PPE accessibility during a time of global crisis.

THANK YOU. At the beginning of the COVID19 pandemic reliable masks and other equipment were scarce. As supply chains broke down shipments of desperately needed masks were diverted and counterfeit PPE flooded the market Project N95 stepped into the breach to help protect frontline workers. We vetted sold and donated more than 42 million pieces of lifesaving equipment.
