The Wellness Initiative

The mission of The Wellness Initiative is to improve the physical health, social and emotional development, and academic performance of low-income youth through yoga-based wellness programs.TWI was founded in 2006 to address the concern that low-income students of all ages suffer from increasingly stressful and unhealthy lives. We serve prekindergarten-through-12th-grade students and their teachers with a focus on underserved, minority populations. We provide students with behavior-changing tools that address issues such as childhood obesity, physical inactivity, excess stress, violent behavior, and low self-esteem. Since TWI’s inception, we have offered programs in over 50 schools and directly served more than 8,000 students; indirectly, we have reached more than 10,000 students through training programs for teachers. Yoga classes are offered in schools throughout six Denver metro counties: Adams, Arapahoe, Boulder, Broomfield, Denver, and Jefferson.
