I’m pleased to welcome Afiya Kumar to Frisco Arts Foundation Board of Directors. Afiya brings a lifelong passion for the arts, community engagement, and strategic leadership. As an award-winning Interior Designer and Founder of AHA Designs–her work, spanning luxury boutiques, showrooms, and celebrity high-end homes–has graced the covers of top magazines and featured in media nationwide. Her career evolved into real estate, where she earned consecutive recognition as a REALTOR® with COMPASS in D Magazine as Top Producer. She now leads a premier real estate referral business, matching clients across Texas and the U.S. with top-tier agents for seamless, high-value transactions. Afiya’s artistic roots run deep, shaped by her mother, an accomplished artist, and inspired by the creative appreciation shared by her father and grandmother. Her dedication to the arts extends from previously serving on boards, such as Harrington School of Design and Project Osmosis, to volunteering for Designs for Dignity, supporting SisterFriends art shows and promoting art collections. For Afiya, the visual, applied, and performing arts have always been more than a passion, they are an essential part of her life. Born in the Midwest, raised on the East Coast, educated at Howard University and R.I.S.D., Afiya then thrived in Chicago’s vibrant design scene before making Frisco home. Her commitment to service began with Heartland Alliance International and continues through her ongoing involvement with many nonprofit organizations such as Boys and Girls Club of Collin County, VNA Meals on Wheels, and as a legacy member of Jack and Jill of America, Inc., where she has organized impactful programs for the Greater Frisco Chapter that foster youth leadership, culture, and community service. Since 2014, Frisco has been home for Afiya and her wonderful husband, their two amazing teenagers, and their lovable bichon-poo. When she’s not attending games, events, or art exhibits with family and friends— visiting her parents in Phoenix, or brother, sis in law and three nieces in L.A.—you’ll find her traveling, volunteering, reading and writing, practicing yoga, hiking and exploring nature, and continuing to live a life enriched by the arts.
