NMA Physical Theatre Ensemble generates innovative physical works of theatre, while offering educational and transformational experiences. Not Man Apart generates innovative works of Physical Theatre and multi-disciplinary movement, contributing educational and transformational experiences offering robust community outreach programming.TO CREATE original theatre experiences or reexamine classics from the physical tradition of Grotowski, Meyerhold and thedance theatre world, then to share that work both nationally and internationally.TO COMMUNICATE through many mediums-drama, comedy, dance, music, original/classical text and multi-media- to createhighly athletic and innovative theatrical events which are both life affirming and consciousness expanding. TO EMPOWER the artistic community by generatinginnovative work, inspiring collaboration, and providing education and transformational experiences through the performing arts. TO ESTABLISH a new kind of physical theatre genre that is at the same time exciting, relevant, accessible, ineffable and all-inclusive. This mission is fulfilled by two very clear branches. The Physical Theater Ensemble creates productions combining dance, acrobatics, theatre, music, and film through a visceral interpretation of reimagined classics and original scripts. The Outreach programs serve a variety of communities through workshops and performances including the Somatic Movement Arts Festival (SOMAfest), LA Improv Dance Festival (iDfest), Shakespeare Santa Monica, to name a few. These festivals have run for over 10 years in the Los Angeles area andhave served thousands of artists, participants, and audiences. NMA Outreach also co-produces many projects for local artists and groups, demonstrating our commitment to growing community and supporting artists.
