Advanced Energy Works
Overview
Advanced Energy Works is a US nonprofit organization focused on promoting the interests and impact of the advanced energy workforce in the United States. It is a grassroots advocacy arm working in partnership with Advanced Energy Economy and the AEE Institute.
Purpose
The organization aims to elevate the voices of workers in the advanced energy sector, which includes technologies such as energy efficiency, demand response, solar, wind, hydro, electric vehicles, and smart grid systems. By doing so, it seeks to create a level playing field for advanced energy compared to traditional energy sources, promoting policies that support job creation, sustainable market growth, and a rapid transition to clean, secure, and affordable energy.
Activities
Advanced Energy Works engages in various activities to influence policy decisions. It coordinates campaigns to encourage contact between its members and policymakers, advocating for policies that protect environmental energy businesses and support candidates who promote a transition to clean energy. The organization also mobilizes its members during elections to ensure voters hold decision-makers accountable for supporting advanced energy initiatives.
History
Advanced Energy Works was previously known as Advanced Energy Economy 4 and underwent a name change in 2018 to refocus its advocacy efforts on sustaining jobs in the environmental energy industries. This shift underscored its commitment to making advanced energy a sustainable sector by promoting workforce development and equitable hiring practices, including racial equity standards.
Relationship with Other Organizations
Advanced Energy Works operates closely with Advanced Energy Economy, a national association of business leaders committed to transforming the global energy system to make it more secure, clean, and affordable. The AEE Institute serves as an educational arm, providing research and information to help understand the path to a 100% clean energy economy.
Leadership
Leadership roles within Advanced Energy Works often overlap with those in Advanced Energy Economy. Key figures include Heather O'Neill, who serves as CEO of Advanced Energy Works and President of Advanced Energy Economy, and Nat Kreamer, CEO of Advanced Energy Economy.
Impact
Advanced Energy Works is part of the broader advanced energy sector, which employs over 3.3 million workers in the United States, generating $200 billion in revenue annually. This sector contributes significantly to the U.S. economy, providing a growing tax base that benefits local communities.
Financials
Historically, Advanced Energy Works has reported varied financial results. Between 2013 and 2016, it reported substantial revenue and expenses. However, in later years, the revenue figures were significantly lower. The organization continues to seek donations to support its advocacy efforts and industry development initiatives.
