⚠️ Cuteness Alert! ⚠️ Soon it will be that special time of year when bighorn sheep lambing season occurs, typically from mid-April to mid-June. Female bighorn sheep, or ewes, isolate themselves in steep, rocky areas before giving birth. After a few weeks in isolation, the mother rejoins the herd and put the lamb in a community nursery with other lambs. Advocates for the West is a leading defender of bighorn sheep, which are at risk for contracting a fatal illness from domestic sheep. Our victories have set strong legal precedent, which we are now using to push for more bighorn sheep protections in Colorado. Along with our partners Western Watersheds Project and WildEarth Guardians, we are challenging a U.S. Forest Service decision to graze domestic sheep within the habitat range of bighorn herds centered on the Wishbone Allotment near Creede, CO, threatening deadly disease transmission.
