Creative Resistance is an essential element of movement work & direct action. Art has always had a place in organizing & spreading the message of the frontlines. The work of NDN Collective’s Creative Resistance team empowers Indigenous communities by helping others build the skills & tools they need to tell their own story & create their narrative. Creative Resistance trainers teach skills like screenprinting, bannermaking, wheatpasting, & much more, depending on the community’s needs and goals. “Creative Resistance brings in & encompasses all the tactics that make an action effective. It’s about how to creatively set the bar each time. You have to think strategically together about the ways to tell a story the way it should be told,” said Cy Wagoner, Creative Resistance Director at NDN Collective. NDN Collective engages relatives from all over Turtle Island & beyond. The connection between communities is undoubtedly one of our Collective’s biggest strengths. We have fostered connections in communities in SD, MN, AZ, NM, HI, AK, CA, GA, & Mexico. Settler colonialism has manifested differently in these areas, & we wanted to intentionally select lands that illustrate the diversity & impact of place-based work on the kinds of organizing & creative resistance needed for meaningful change.
