Kids dig Camp Elings! Eight weeks of Outdoor Adventure Camp begin on June 16, with spaces available for ages 5 to 12. Campers explore nature throughout the 230-acre park and get their hands dirty to learn how plants germinate. Thursdays are Beach Days, and Fridays get wet and wild during Slip ‘n Slide Day. We recently uncovered a time capsule interred 28 years ago at the dedication of the Veterans Memorial Walk at Las Positas Friendship Park (the name changed to Elings Park in 1999). Inside were planning documents, blueprints, photographs, newspaper stories, and more, including a California Proclamation from then-Governor Pete Wilson dated October 24, 1997. The pathway honors 98 Santa Barbara County servicemen who died in the Vietnam War. It’s a beautiful walk right now, with flowers in bloom and spring in the air.
