Disciple Dojo is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Charlotte, North Carolina. It operates as a theological dojo, aiming to equip, engage, and empower individuals in Christian discipleship. Founding and Mission

Disciple Dojo was founded by James-Michael Smith, a Bible teacher, author, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt. Smith established the organization as a way to continue developing resources for the church worldwide while focusing on his gifts and passions in a broader context. The mission of Disciple Dojo is to equip members of the church with theological knowledge, engage people of all backgrounds and mindsets in dialogue, and empower vulnerable communities through various initiatives.

Programs

One of the notable programs offered by Disciple Dojo is RefugeeJitsu. This program provides free weekly Jiujitsu and self-defense classes for children from refugee, immigrant, and local lower-income communities. Started in 2015, RefugeeJitsu aims not only to teach physical skills but also to build genuine friendships and provide a safe outlet for stress and pressures faced by these children as they grow up in a new environment.

Nonprofit Status and Community Impact

As a 501(c)(3) organization, Disciple Dojo's activities are funded through donations, which are tax-deductible.
