The Century Club of California In 1888 The Century Club of California was established in San Francisco by one hundred and eleven active forwardlooking women from the Bay Area. Mrs. George Hearst Phoebe Apperson was the first President and a strong guiding force during the organizations early years. Miss Sarah Dix Hamlin an outstanding advocate of education for women was a charter member of the group.
