History

Established on January 29, 1937, during the heart of the Dust Bowl and Great Depression, Ducks Unlimited was founded by a group of sportsmen concerned about the dwindling waterfowl populations. The organization was initiated by visionary leaders, including Joseph P. Knapp, Robert Winthrop, and E.H. Low, who recognized the critical need to protect and restore wetland habitats in Canada and the United States. Initially, DU's efforts focused on the Prairie Pothole Region, a crucial breeding ground for waterfowl.
