PICC's mission is to promote community-based conservation in primate habitat countries by empowering local youth through visual storytelling with photography and sketching. We hold 2-week sessions in local villages with schoolchildren, educators, and local elders and provide information about primates and their habitats (including a coloring book), as well as DSLR cameras, sketchbooks, a printer, and an internet-connected iPad. The students become engaged with their local biodiversity, learn how to document it visually, and graduate as "Forest Ambassadors" upon conclusion of the program. We celebrate by having students present their sketches and photos to their community, setting up children in such a way that they gain skills and knowledge to pursue conservation-oriented careers.
