Holden High School provides a top-rated alternative educational experience that transforms the lives of our students. Holden is a welcoming and empowering community for students who have struggled to fit into mainstream school settings due to learning differences and/or social-emotional challenges including anxiety, depression, school avoidance, and school trauma. Our students enjoy weekly 1-on-1 counseling sessions and thrive in our small, tight-knit school where everyone is truly seen, heard, and known.

Holden High School
Overview

Holden High School is a private, non-profit educational institution located in Contra Costa County, California. Founded in 1969, it is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, and its diplomas are recognized by the State of California. The school is designed to support students with learning differences and social-emotional challenges, providing a personalized educational environment.

Education and Mission

The mission of Holden High School is to foster a deep sense of community where every student feels seen, heard, and understood. It achieves this through small class sizes and a supportive environment that encourages students to explore their full range of abilities and interests. The curriculum is tailored to meet the unique needs of its students, focusing on both academic and personal development.

Community and Involvement

Holden High School emphasizes community service as an integral part of its program. Students are required to participate in community service activities such as volunteering at community centers, soup kitchens, food banks, animal shelters, and nature cleanups. This commitment to service extends beyond individual student participation, with the school often organizing community-wide service events and field trips.

Funding and Support

Holden High School operates as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with the EIN number 94-2275076. It benefits from both private donations and nonprofit partnerships to support its educational mission. Some of its facilities are generously donated by the Orinda Community Church, highlighting the strong community ties and support it receives from local organizations.

Governance and Operations

With a faculty of approximately 15 members, Holden High School maintains a student body of about 40 students, drawn from across the San Francisco Bay Area. This diverse student population reflects the broader cultural and socioeconomic diversity of the region. The school's governance structure supports active community engagement and civic responsibility among students, allowing them to participate in voter initiatives and earn credit for volunteering activities.
