THUNDER MOUNTAIN FARMS EQUINE RESCUE
At Thunder Mountain Farms Equine Rescue it is our mission to provide shelter, care, rehabilitation, and adoption services and sanctuary for abandoned, abused, neglected, slaughter-bound, and unwanted horses, wild and domestic, while also providing life enriching experiences for youth and adults through education, mentor-ship, community service, networking and collaborations throughout Washington State.
Since our inception, Thunder Mountain Farms Equine Rescue has helped support & rescue over a 1000 horses! Our foremost goal is to save horses, help rehabilitate & place them into qualified, loving homes. On average it cost $2000 to rehabilitate & re-home a horse. We average 25 equine residents at the farm at any given time. For most of the horses we help, our rescue is the last hope for these magnificent animals that are deserving of a better life.
Rehabilitation takes time, then the adoption process can begin. Re-socialization is more effective with human interaction- it takes a village of people to save a horse. It wouldn't be possible without a competent team of compassionate volunteers. Horses began as our primary mission, but we soon realized the value in sharing our resources with people, a gift we can offer to the community. We're committed to educating, collaborating with the greater community, & networking to reduce abuse, slaughter & abandonment of equines. People come to the farm from all walks of life to volunteer or perform community service while connecting with animals, putting lost skills to work as well as learning new skills. As Winston Churchill said, “There is something about the outside of a horse that is good for the inside of a man."
