Partners in Literacy Haiti

Home -

Founded in 2011 as an all-volunteer committee, Partners in Literacy Haiti (PILH) enhances literacy in children through work with, support for and development of underserved libraries, schools, and learning centers. We increase children’s pleasure in libraries and champion early Creole language learning with interaction with library partners and preschool to primary level teacher training. The University of Illinois’ Mortenson Center for International Libraries Program collaborates in library training. In 2020, PILH founded the Haitian Library Alliance seeking to end libraries' isolation and increase knowledge. A major thrust is to include more outreach using advanced technology. Creating confident readers through addressing and eliminating Haiti's barriers to literacy is our PILH goal.
