Idaho Women's Charitable Foundation
The Idaho Women's Charitable Foundation (IWCF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering educated philanthropy through collaboration, pooled resources, and individual giving to positively impact the community. Founded in 2001 by a small group of women, the organization's mission is to inspire women with the power of collaborative philanthropy.
History and Growth
IWCF began with 34 members during its inaugural year and has grown significantly to over 400 members today. This growth has been accompanied by an expanding capacity to make a difference in the community. The foundation has invested more than $3.3 million in over 140 local projects through its pooled-fund grants. Additionally, members can designate $500 of their annual contribution to organizations of their choice, which has led to over $6.2 million in total giving as of June 2024.
Focus Areas and Grant Program
IWCF focuses on six key interest areas: cultural arts, education, financial stability, environment, health, and rural communities. Grants are awarded based on an annual vote by the membership. Members participate in a seven-month collaborative effort to research and recommend grant recipients, ensuring that the pooled funds are used effectively.
Diversity and Inclusion
IWCF emphasizes the importance of diversity and inclusion in its work, recognizing that diverse perspectives can amplify the organization's impact. It strives to understand, connect with, and serve the community by listening to its members and local nonprofits, aspiring to remove barriers to success and create more equitable opportunities.
Recognition and Expansion
IWCF has been recognized for its contributions, including being named the Outstanding Foundation of the Year by the Idaho chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals in 2006. One of its founders, Susan Smith, was acknowledged as a Hero of Philanthropy in 2011. The foundation has also played a role in mentoring the start of similar organizations in Idaho, such as the Women’s Gift Alliance in North Idaho and the Wood River Women’s Charitable Foundation in Blaine County.
Financial Profile
As a public charity, IWCF continues to invest in community projects. In 2023, it provided $355,354 in grants, showcasing its ongoing commitment to making a positive impact through philanthropy.
