International Firefighters Training Association Inc.

The International Firefighters Training Association Inc. (IFTA) is a U.S.-based nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing emergency services training globally. Founded in 2017 by firefighters from the United States and Mexico, IFTA’s mission is to create safer communities by providing specialized training programs for emergency response services.

Mission

IFTA aims to provide a no-cost, strategic, standardized decision-making model for emergency services training. This includes offering the latest training techniques to mitigate various types of emergency responses and national disasters. The organization works collaboratively with local and international entities such as Rotary Clubs, city and state officials, and multiple nonprofit foundations to achieve its goals.

History

IFFTA’s history began informally in 2006 with a donation of firefighting and rescue equipment to the Tijuana, Mexico Fire Department. This effort expanded over the years, with significant milestones including the establishment of a formal training program in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, in 2017. IFTA collaborated with local Rotary Clubs and city officials to enhance operations, safety, and working conditions for the City of Puerto Vallarta Fire Department.

Activities

• Training Programs: IFTA organizes bi-annual training symposiums, bringing in top U.S. instructors to provide comprehensive training sessions. These include training officer and instructor classes, emergency response courses, and specialized topics like wildland firefighting.
• Equipment Donations: The organization also focuses on donating essential equipment to support fire departments in Mexico and Central America. This includes items such as firefighting gear, medical supplies, and vehicles.
• Community Involvement: Beyond its core mission, IFTA engages in various community projects, including supporting local police departments with safety gear and sponsoring community events.

Status

As of 2022, IFTA is recognized as a tax-exempt organization under the U.S. tax code. Donations to the organization are tax-deductible, and it operates under the category of Human Services—Multipurpose and Other N.E.C. according to the NTEE classification.
