Charlotte Maxwell Clinic's (CMC) mission is to provide San Francisco Bay Area low-income women with cancer the opportunity for improved health outcomes and quality of life by providing free access to compassionate, integrative care. CMC was founded in 1991 in memory of Charlotte Maxwell, a progressive women's health advocate who, amidst her own battle with ovarian cancer, recognized the importance of holistic complementary therapies in cancer treatment. Her dream was for all women, regardless of economic status or background, to have access to the supportive therapies that eased her suffering. Today, the approach of combining complementary therapies with standard medical treatment is leading-edge integrative care, yet disparities in access persist for women who lack financial means.
