The Delores Project is a U.S. nonprofit organization focused on providing shelter and support services to unaccompanied women and transgender individuals experiencing homelessness. Established in honor of Delores Big Boy, a Lakota woman who cared for others amidst her own struggles with homelessness, the organization aims to create a space that embodies dignity and hospitality.

The Delores Project was founded in 2000, inspired by the life and values of Delores Big Boy. Since its inception, the organization has grown to become a significant provider of shelter and support services in Denver.

Mission and Vision

The Delores Project's mission is to build belonging for people experiencing homelessness through safe, dignified, and trauma-informed shelter for women, transgender, and nonbinary individuals, along with supportive services and housing. The organization's vision is that all individuals have the community of support and housing stability they need to thrive.

Programs and Services

• Extended Stay Shelter: The organization operates a low-barrier, extended-stay shelter offering essential amenities like meals, hot showers, bus tickets, health services, and housing-focused case management. Guests participate in shelter chores and advisory committees to foster a positive environment.

• Community Transitions: Provides safe shelter and emergency services for individuals released from correctional facilities.

• Permanent Supportive Housing: Offers supportive housing through facilities like the Delores Apartments, providing 24-hour support services, case management, medical care linkages, and on-site behavioral health counseling for those who have been chronically homeless and live with disabilities.

The Delores Project aims to diversify revenue sources, increase fundraising capacity, and establish strong asset management systems.
