Verbaleyze Inc

VerbalEyze is a nonprofit that serves to foster, promote, and support the development and professional growth of emerging young writers. Writing is the stuff of life itself. That which we write is inseparable from that which makes up our own lives. Alice Walker said, “I’m not sure a bad person can write a good book, If art doesn’t make us better, then what on earth is it for?” As we grow and emerge as people, so too does our writing emerge.VerbalEyze Writers Cooperative serves to foster, promote, and support the development and professional growth of emerging teenage and young adult writers, ages thirteen through twenty-two. We strive to help them develop as writers and find their voice as they mature.Initiatives that support this objective include providing access to public performance spaces, writers workshops, and publication opportunities. The founding and core objective of our organization is to help young people develop as writers and find their voice as they mature. Studies have shown that the elimination of creative curricula and extracurricular activities in the public school system has engendered a narrow field of interest, which limits students’ exploration of possibilities for engagement with the broader community, development of marketable skills, and envisioning their places as citizens. These studies suggest that students who may not excel in traditional academic courses can find purpose and a voice through creative expression, allowing them to imagine and pursue valid career choices. In addition, traditional students can gain broader perspectives and the opportunity to employ cross-disciplinary skills within a creative environment, making them stronger students.
