School Health Clinics of Santa Clara County
School Health Clinics of Santa Clara County's mission is to provide high quality, affordable primary medical care for the low income community.School Health Clinics of Santa Clara County originated twenty eight years ago as a program of the San Jose Medical Center. Ten years later, with the sale of the Good Samaritan Health System to Columbia, the school health clinics became part of The Health Trust, the newly formed non-profit public charity created from the proceeds of the sale.In July 2003, we left the umbrella of the Health Trust in order to keep federal funding. School Health Clinics was established as an independent 501(c)3 organization with a governing Board of Directors. This has allowed us to maintain federal funding and, more importantly, qualified all clinics as Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC's).Since 1986, School Health Clinics of Santa Clara County has been providing easily accessible, quality health care to low income infants, children and adolescents on school campuses. Our clinics are located at schools in four districts in east San Jose and Gilroy. They are open to all low income children birth to age 19, in Santa Clara County. On August 4, 2014, our Washington Neighborhood Health Clinic began serving low income adults in addition to children. One in ten children in Santa Clara County lives in poverty. Among the county's Latino population, 25 percent of households live below the federal poverty level and a large percentage of them do not have any type of health insurance coverage. This is the population largely served by School Health Clinics of Santa Clara County. Our clinics are staffed with a nurse practitioner or physician assistant, and two bilingual Spanish speaking medical assistants. Supervising physicians oversee the clinics under the management of our Medical Director, Dr. Claude Rogé, who is a pediatric cardiologist.
