Pamoja Art Society – The Oldest Black American Arts Organization In Louisiana

Pamoja Art Society is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization that is dedicated to celebrating African-American culture, serving artists, and building a stronger community. Thirty-six years ago the organization was founded by a talented group of artists from Northwest Louisiana. The name “Pamoja” is an East African word meaning “coming together.”Today, Pamoja is a multi-discipline arts organization that serves more than 5,000 children and adults each year. Pamoja Cultural Arts Center in the Ingleside Area is the venue for Pamoja’s programs and a wide variety of community activities. The Center is a leader in community development and the revitalization of the Linwood village, a small, quaint business district in central Shreveport. The Pamoja Executive Offices in the Allendale Area is the organization’s administrative headquarters, secondary program venue, and the site of the Inner City Green Initiative to catalyze sustainable neighborhood development.
