Today we are highlighting Emaya Mataele (South Florida) and her heritage! "I am Tongan! Tonga is one of the islands in Polynesia. My culture and family are what I hold dear, and I seize every opportunity to express my gratitude for my identity! It’s very common for people to be unaware of where Tonga is, let alone what it is! Tonga is one of the beautiful islands in Polynesia. My grandpa is from Tonga and made his way from California to Utah, where my dad was born. Our culture is rich and vibrant, encompassing our food, music, dancing, and family traditions. Today we are spotlighting members from San Diego State University - Kareen Holstrom, Isabella Martinez, and Myah Moreno for their big accomplishments winning San Diego States Associated Students elections! Kareen, the new A.S President is the Chief Executive Officer of Associated Students, serving as the student voice in many spaces and advocating for student interest within university committees and decisions. Within the role, Kareen will also chair the A.S. Board of Directors and encourage collaboration between A.S. leaders & the student body! Isabella, the new Campus Community Representative connects communities to create a safer campus through community service initiatives as well as advocating for student needs. Myah, one of the new College of Health and Human Services Representative advocates for her fellow CHHS students by effectively representing their collective concerns and priorities to the University in order to foster positive advancements.
