Description

Phoenix Flyers Inc

Phoenix Flyers Inc is a 501(c)(7) non-profit, member-owned social flying club based in Phoenix, Arizona. It was established in 1958 to provide cost-effective access to general aviation aircraft for its members, with a focus on educational, social, and recreational purposes.

History

The club was initially based at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. However, in 1997, it relocated its operations to both Chandler Municipal Airport and Phoenix Deer Valley Airport. This strategic move was designed to better serve its members, who are spread across the Phoenix area.

Mission and Activities

The mission of Phoenix Flyers Inc is to facilitate the proper use and enjoyment of aircraft, improve flying skills, and provide a social forum for aviation enthusiasts. The club achieves this by maintaining a fleet of aircraft that are available to members for personal use, subject to certain operational guidelines and training requirements.

Fleet and Operations

Phoenix Flyers Inc owns three aircraft: two Cessna Skylanes and a Piper Archer. To ensure equal access for all members, the club rotates its aircraft between Chandler and Deer Valley airports every four months. Members can reserve aircraft through an online system, and participation requires a monthly fee that covers operational costs such as insurance, hangar rental, and maintenance.

Membership and Governance

Membership in Phoenix Flyers Inc involves purchasing a share in the club, which entitles members to use the fleet after meeting specific experience and checkout requirements. The club is governed by its members, with regular board meetings that are open to attendees. Members are responsible for adhering to the club's operating procedures, which include responsibility for damages to the aircraft.

Financial Structure

The cost of joining the club includes an initial share purchase, currently set at $5,750. Members also pay a monthly fee of $150, which covers fixed costs associated with running the club and maintaining the aircraft.

Limitations and Additional Insurance

Phoenix Flyers Inc does not permit its aircraft to be used for commercial purposes, including flight instruction for non-members. Members are responsible for a deductible if the aircraft is damaged during use and may choose to purchase supplemental insurance.

Phoenix Flyers Inc remains one of the most established flying clubs in Arizona, offering a unique combination of camaraderie, flight training, and recreational flying opportunities.
