Background

The initiative was founded in response to the tragic loss of John W. Buckner, who was a victim of violence. His family, led by his son Darnell Buckner and supported by his mother, Louise Buckner, chose to create a positive legacy in his honor. Instead of seeking vengeance, the family opted to establish a nonprofit organization that would offer opportunities for personal growth and skill development among young people, thereby helping them avoid similar fates.

Programs and Events

The initiative offers a variety of programs and events that cater to different community needs. These include:

• Scholarship Weekend: The program's flagship event, where scholarships are awarded in music, culinary arts, and horticulture.
• Culinary Arts Program: A 10-week course that equips participants with skills for the culinary industry, including kitchen training and certification.
• Music Program: Offers instruction in keyboard, drums, and lead guitar, as well as vocal recording opportunities.
