It’s EMS week! Please join Telluride Fire in celebrating our EMS crews for EMS week, starting today. EMS week was established in 1974 by President Ford to celebrate the role of EMS in caring for our communities. Your EMS crews responded to more than 1,400 911 calls in 2024. EMS is also is responsible for “interfacility”transports to hospitals out of area, such as Montrose Regional and St. Mary’s. In 2024, Telluride Fire did more than 200 transports. Telluride Fire also prioritizes continued education. This year we sent ten of our employees to advance their certification levels, four of those becoming paramedics. Additionally, we provided financial assistance to five more staff members pursuing bachelors degrees in EMS. We are also continuing to get the latest quality equipment, such as state-of-the-art cardiac monitors, to provide the best care to our patients. Thank you EMS, and thank you Telluride community for your support! (fb)

*Wildfire Risk Telluride Fire is participating in a series of interagency meetings with federal and state partners to forecast and prepare resources for this wildfire season. Interagency collaboration is essential for fire districts, including Telluride, to help protect lives and properties in fire emergencies. Deputy Chief John Cheroske represented Telluride Fire in the meeting held last week and reports that while snow pacts were low this Winter, an important data point for fire risk, it's still too early to predict what kind of wildfire season it could be. "We're all working hard to collect and analyze data to help forecast what we're facing this fire season, to help prepare for our respective fire districts," Deputy Chief Cheroske said. "But we all have to remember, these are 'forecasts,' and at this point, there's certainly potential to have a busy season if we don't see the forecasted moisture through the month of May ." This was just one of the regular interagency meetings that will occur this summer, and Telluride Fire will remain an active participant. In addition to Telluride Fire, those in attendance last week included Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), The United States Forest Service (USFS), and interagency dispatchers. We will keep you all posted with forecasted wildfire risk assessments and preparedness tips as more information becomes available.
