📣Power in Action: New Voices Are Rising Featured in Major Story on Port of Oakland Electrification by Kneedeep Times For years, West Oakland residents have voiced the need for cleaner air and healthier neighborhoods—calls that have taken on new urgency in the face of climate change. Now, through a landmark electrification initiative at the Port of Oakland, that vision is beginning to take shape. New Voices Are Rising is proud to support this transition by uplifting youth voices, engaging the community, and contributing to local air quality monitoring—helping ensure that climate solutions reflect the lived experiences of those most impacted.

🌍 On World Environment Day, we’re reminded that environmental justice starts at the community level. In the first reel of our new series, Jack Verdusco, New Voices Are Rising’s Air Quality Community Specialist Intern, shines a light on the harsh reality of air pollution in East Oakland—where highways, factories, and toxic sites border homes and schools. Through youth-led air monitoring and community advocacy, Jacky and her peers are demanding clean air and environmental justice for frontline communities.
