Warren Astronomical Society

Warren Astronomical Society

Owned and operated by the Warren Astronomical Society. Monthly free public open house every 4th Saturday. Available to groups by request. The Warren Astronomical Society is a group of amateur astronomers serving Metro Detroit including the City of Detroit. We're the oldest astronomy club in Southeastern Michigan and by many regards the most active. The Society emphasizes volunteerism and public outreach. We host two monthly indoor meetings with presentations about the science, the history, the people, and the practical aspects of astronomy, as well as space travel and cosmology. We hold monthly open houses at Stargate Observatory, and volunteer for many public events at Cranbrook Institute of Science, all over Metro Detroit and in the City of Detroit, and beyond. Our members, who live all over the Detroit area, are happy to give talks to schools, scouts, churches, and other groups young and old.

About the organization

Amateur is not an insult. An amateur astronomer is anybody who learns the skies. Anybody who may learn how to observe or photograph the incomprehensibly distant and huge objects out there. Anybody who may learn about spaceflight or space in popular culture or scientific history or cosmology.
