Afroresistance Inc. is a nonprofit organization headquartered in the Bronx, New York, dedicated to promoting social justice and human rights across the Americas. Founded from the Latin American and Caribbean Community Center, it evolved to focus on issues affecting Black communities, particularly those of Latin American and Caribbean descent.
Mission and Principles
The mission of Afroresistance is centered on educating and organizing for human rights, democracy, and racial justice throughout the Americas. Its work emphasizes the lived experiences of subjugated knowledge of Black Women and Girls. Core principles include:
- Black Unity in the Americas: Unifying Black people across the region to co-design a political agenda grounded in gender, racial, reproductive, and economic justice.
- Gender Analysis: Centering Black Trans Women and Girls to address systemic impacts across all intersections.
- Racial Justice: Focusing on the liberation of Black people due to historical systemic oppression.
- Reproductive Justice: Advocating for reproductive rights as a human right, a framework developed by Black women.
- Migration: Honoring Black people's movement regardless of status, with an internationalist perspective.
- Economic Justice: Grounding economic discussions in equity of wealth to address historical inequalities.
