Mothers come in a lot of different forms. I’ve been blessed to have so many beautiful examples of the maternal heart in my life, and Karina is definitely at the top of that list. She can’t not mother. For the last few years, I’ve been able to witness her lead by example and model what it looks like to mother a community. Often that means holding children who aren’t her own, sometimes it means mothering women older than herself, and it always comes in the form of a gentle, yet fiercely protective spirit. Her maternal heart never stops beating and caring for everyone around her. And it goes beyond just making sure our mothers and children are fed, clothed, and housed. 90% of what she does (which is saying something since she does so much), is the emotional labor she puts into loving our mamas and letting them know that they are safe now. The beautiful thing about that is it creates a ripple effect that impacts these women and allows them to be even better moms to their own kiddos because they are no longer in survival mode. It has truly been the honor of my life to journey alongside her and learn how to love more. How to care bigger. How to mother in an untraditional, yet so desperately needed way. So happy Mother’s Day to Karina, and all of the phenomenal women who are making this world a better place with every single act of love and compassion they show towards this generation and the next. 💐 (fb)
