The Next Swell is a nonprofit organization, formed for the purpose of cultivating future generations of marine conservationists and scientists. Our primary efforts include: Providing financial scholastic scholarships to exceptional undergraduate and graduate student candidates in pursuit of degrees in the associated fields of marine biology and marine conservation. Heightening public awareness of the ecological, legal, and philosophical implications of marine conservation efforts within the current political and socio-economic paradigms. Partnering with representatives from the local community to foster public discussion regarding marine biology and conservation to engage public participation in conservation efforts and to help steward marine ecosystems for future generations.

There has been a rare and exciting observation recently — stone crabs have been spotted in the Chesapeake Bay. 🧐 These crabs are typically found in warmer southern waters, like Florida and the Gulf of Mexico, so seeing them as far north as the Chesapeake Bay is unusual and definitely noteworthy. Whether this is a sign of shifting water temperatures, changing currents, or simply a one-off appearance, it’s a reminder of how dynamic and interconnected our ecosystems are.
