Quiana has been with Saint Luke's since 2016. Before beginning her career in health care, she was as an administrative assistant at a school district. Quiana decided to make a career change after a family member experienced a life-altering accident. "My brother was injured in an accident, and we spent the better part of a year in a hospital or rehab setting as a family," said Quiana. "After a lot of thought and prayer, I decided to transition from my employer at the time and start nursing school." Now a NICU Nurse Manager, Quiana says working in health care is special because it gives her the opportunity to play a role in a patient's story. "When patients come in to the hospital, they might be having one of the worst days of their lives. They're scared, and it's challenging and difficult. And I get to be by their side and help ease them through," said Quiana. "When they share their testimony, I hope it's a positive one. As a child, Mary was no stranger to the hospital environment—she even took her first steps in the hallways of a hospital. Mary had an older sibling living with chronic medical issues, so she spent a lot of time in and out of the hospital helping care for her sister. In college, Mary struggled to find a calling that inspired her. Encouraged by her mother, she gave nursing a try, and never looked back. "The people keep me coming back day after day," said Mary. "My team, my colleagues, my mentors—they are why I am here. I could not do what I do, nor would I be where I am, without the support of my Saint Luke's family." #HealthCareWeek (fb)
