Our mission is to end the unnecessary euthanasia of adoptable cats and dogs in NC shelters by helping low-income residents spay and neuter their pets. AnimalKind's mission is to end the unnecessary euthanasia of cats and dogs in NC shelters by helping low-income families prevent unwanted pet litters. Animal shelters in the Triangle-area of NC euthanize (kill) about 20,000 cats and dogs every year to make room for more--some shelters euthanizing as many as 90% of their incoming animals. Research suggests that 80% of pet overpopulation comes from low-income neighborhoods where spay/neuter is neither affordable nor accessible. Successful models around the country have demonstrated that a cost-effective way to end the euthanasia of adoptable cats and dogs is to provide financial assistance to the lowest-income pet owners--so they can alter their pets and prevent accidental pet litters.
