History and Development

The first Masonic lodge in Oregon was established after an advertisement was placed in the Oregon Spectator on February 5, 1846, calling for Masons to meet in Oregon City. This led to the formation of Multnomah Lodge #1, with a charter issued by the Grand Lodge of Missouri in October 1846. The charter was brought to Oregon by Brother Joseph Kellogg in 1848[1][2].

By 1850, two more lodges were formed near modern-day Portland. The Grand Lodge of Ancient Free & Accepted Masons of Oregon was formally established on September 15, 1851, with Berryman Jennings serving as its first Grand Master[1][3].

Masonic Contributions and Activities

Freemasonry in Oregon is dedicated to personal development and community service. Masons are encouraged to be good citizens and to contribute to philanthropic efforts.
