PARENT SUPPORT CENTER INC

Caring Discipline Parenting classes online and in greater Portland Oregon area

Parent Support Center, Inc., located in Portland, Oregon and serving the Pacific Northwest region, was established in 1988 in response to an unmet need for effective parenting classes available to all, regardless of ability to pay. Founder JoAnne Nordling, a former teacher and school counselor, and Lorraine Heller, a former Head Start Teacher, began offering the Caring Discipline program, an evidence-informed approach to parenting and classroom discipline based on Abraham Maslow's philosophy of human nature and the principle of disciplining children with love and respect, as well as on the works of Carl Rodgers, Rudolph Dreikurs, Haim Ginott, Eric Berne, and Alice Miller.Appropriate for children ages 2-18, our curriculum is adapted from the book, Taking Charge: Caring Discipline That Works At Home and At School, by JoAnne Nordling, M.S., M.Ed. Now in its fourth edition, this highly acclaimed approach to discipline is a distillation of the author's forty plus years of experience as a teacher and school counselor working with hundreds of parents, children, and teachers. It is an approach which has been highly successful within a broad range of socio-economic and cultural groups.Parent Support Center, Inc. is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) educational organization dedicated to preventing child abuse and to strengthening and enriching family and classroom environment.
