The COVID-19 pandemic abruptly shut down tourism to the Galapagos Islands in mid-March. As a result, hundreds of dedicated and hardworking naturalist guides were suddenly out of work with few, if any, options available to provide for themselves and their families. That’s why the International Galapagos Tour Operators Association (IGTOA) and the Galapagos Guides Association (AGIPA) have launched a GoFundMe campaign to provide support for guides and their families during these difficult times. IGTOA has been a proud supporter of the critical work of the Charles Darwin Foundation for many years. Earlier this year, we provided a $25,000 grant to support a project to study the behavior of endangered green sea turtles. The goal of project is to figure out how to reduce often deadly boat strikes, which have become more and more common in recent years.
