Healthy Relationships California (HRC) is a U.S. nonprofit organization dedicated to improving family dynamics and promoting well-being by equipping individuals with relationship skills. Established in 2005 as the California Healthy Marriages Coalition, HRC has evolved over the years to address the broader needs of families and communities.

Mission

The organization's mission is to equip people with relationship skills that transform lives, focusing on building stronger families and communities. HRC aims to make relationship and marriage education widely available across major cultural institutions.

Programs and Services

HRC provides a range of programs, including:

• Healthy Marriages/Relationships: Offers classes in both English and Spanish to help couples improve their relationships. This includes workshops focused on improving romantic relationships, parenting, and work relationships.
• Responsible Fatherhood: Includes programs like the R3 Academy for Dads, which provides practical skills for strengthening relationships between fathers, children, and co-parents. It also covers workforce and financial management skills.
• Research and Education: HRC conducts extensive research and offers educational resources for diverse audiences, including youth, couples, dads, and incarcerated individuals.

Impact

Over the years, HRC has served more than 260,000 Californians. Their work has been supported by Federal grants, allowing them to expand their reach both nationally and internationally. HRC has developed a "coalition of coalitions" model to partner with community-based organizations, ensuring a wide distribution of their relationship and marriage education programs.

Leadership and Legacy

Patty Howell, a renowned relationship and marriage educator, played a significant role in shaping HRC's success. She was a key figure in developing research-based publications and served on several national boards related to marriage and relationship education. Although she passed away in March 2023, her legacy continues to inspire the organization's ongoing efforts to strengthen relationships worldwide.
