Description

Kansas Parents as Teachers Association

The Kansas Parents as Teachers Association (KPATA) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting early childhood education programs throughout Kansas. It focuses on parent education, providing leadership, professional development, and advocacy to enhance the quality of these programs in the state.

Mission

KPATA's mission is to be a leading force in promoting and expanding the Parents as Teachers (PAT) model across Kansas. This mission aims to ensure that all children in Kansas develop to their fullest potential.

History

KPATA was established by a group of coordinators from the Kansas City Area Parents as Teachers Consortium upon the recommendation of their advisory board. The organization's first meeting was held in 2000, and it formally organized with 69 charter members on February 22, 2001. KPATA received its 501(c)3 status in November 2003.

Activities and Partnerships

KPATA collaborates with key state agencies, including the Kansas Parent Information Resource Center (KPIRC), the Kansas State Department of Education (KSDE), and the Department for Children and Families (DCF). These partnerships help KPATA support parent education across Kansas, emphasizing home visitation programs.

Purpose and Impact

The organization works to strengthen home visiting programs, aiming to improve the lives of children and families in Kansas. By supporting the Parents as Teachers model, KPATA helps increase children's school readiness, detect early developmental delays, and enhance parent knowledge of early childhood development. It also fosters positive parenting practices and strengthens community connections.

Membership

Membership in KPATA is open to anyone who believes in the organization's mission and the impact of PAT programs. Members work together as a strong voice for children and families across Kansas, advocating for their needs and rights.
