Civil Air Patrol
Overview
Civil Air Patrol (CAP) is a congressionally chartered, federally supported nonprofit organization and the official civilian auxiliary of the United States Air Force (USAF). Established on December 1, 1941, CAP was created to mobilize the nation’s civilian aviation resources in support of national defense. Today, it operates across all 50 states, Puerto Rico, and the District of Columbia, engaging in a variety of community service activities, youth development programs, and emergency services.
