Have we reached Bear Lake's peak? - The causeway at the Bear Lake inlet is now closed. As a result, Bear Lake is expected to peak at around 5919.37 feet, which is lower than the hoped-for 5920 feet. - Alexander Reservoir saw an average inflow of 366 cubic feet per second (cfs) a couple of days ago. The Last Chance Canal Company is currently diverting about 374 cfs, which is more than the inflow. The Grace Power Plant requires approximately 100 cfs to keep the plant barely running. To meet these needs, the outflow through the Soda Plant has increased to 500 cfs, resulting in a decrease in the reservoir level. - The Bear Lake Outlet Canal was opened on May 26, 2025, at 1:00 PM, with a target flow of 300 cfs. However, the equipment used to measure flow (a gage encoder) wasn't calibrated, so it's still showing zero flow on official records and online at BearRiverBasin.org. In reality, the average flow on May 26 was around 150 cfs since it ran at the full 300 cfs for about half the day. - As of today, the estimated total natural flow of the Bear River from the Outlet to Cutler Reservoir is 1,910 cfs. The hope is to reduce flow from the Outlet later this week to limit the need for extra water storage downstream of Last Chance, where natural flow is still sufficient.
